King boosted by return of Bensalem and Grumeti
ALAN KING is preparing to welcome back two of his leading lights from recent seasons with Grumeti and Bensalem back in work.
Grumeti was third in the Triumph Hurdle behind Countrywide Flame last year, before turning the tables with that rival in the Grade 1 juvenile hurdle at Aintree's John Smith's Grand National meeting. However, he has not been seen since finishing second on the Flat at Goodwood last May.
King, writing in his exclusive column for the Weekender said: "He is over his injury and back working, in fact he did his strongest piece of work to date on Tuesday. I was delighted with that and he continues onwards and upwards. At this time I am very hopeful of him being ready for Cheltenham, although I haven't made any entries yet."
While there is no return date set for Grumeti, Bensalem is in line for his first start in 651 days in a 2m5f graduation chase at Haydock on Saturday.
Winner of a Grade 3 handicap at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival, Bensalem has also been out through injury and will benefit from the run, as King added: "I must warn you that I have left a fair bit to work on. The ground won't be a concern to him as he has won on everything ranging from good to heavy."
