Hughes takes on Hannon with New Pearl

In the conditions race at Salisbury, Richard Hughes goes up against his usual employer Richard Hannon, with the Sheikh Hamdan-owned Mutazamen partnered by Tadhg O'Shea, Hughes is on the David Barron-trained favourite New Pearl.
Barron said: "New Pearl ran a decent race at Ayr last time over five furlongs, but needs this longer trip [6f]. He has come out of that race okay, and we're trying to get his head back in front again. The ground at Salisbury should be on the easy side, which will be to his liking."
Earlier on the card none other than Andrew Balding's subsequent Dante winner Bonfire won one of the two divisions of the 1m maiden at Salisbury last year so it could pay to watch both divisions this year.
Hughes has 13 rides today across the Salisbury and Kempton cards, only partnering one horse at double figure odds (a 12-1 shot) it could also be a big day for the champion jockey elect.
