David Hardaker's 11-year-old was having his 108th start over 6f in division two of the handicap named in his honour and for much of the way looked like he would register an 18th career victory.

"There's still life left in the old boy yet," said trainer Paul Howling. "But he's his own worst enemy because he'sso consistent and such a trier. We're thinking about re-entering him for the extra meeting here on Saturday as there is another 0-65 6f handicap."

Rousted along from his wide draw by Tom McLaughlin, Dvinsky sat on the heels of early leader Riflessione before laying down his challenge in the straight.

The blinkered son of Stravinsky bravely fought to the lead over a furlong out but his early exertions started to take there toll close home and he was swamped by Sole Danser, Katmai River and Lastkingofscotland, who filled the first three places.

Dvinsky is now just 17 starts from matching the modern-day record of 217 career starts, held by another popular sprinter Sharp Hat.

Already the winner of £111,471 in prize-money, Dvinsky was making his 65th start at Kempton.
