Kempton steps in to save Ascot's Wednesday card
KEMPTON on Monday stepped in to save Ascot's card, featuring the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes, after the Berkshire track was deemed unfit to stage Wednesday's fixture due to waterlogging.
Any hope of the meeting, which also features two Listed contests, taking place at Ascot were extinguished yesterday morning, when clerk of the course Chris Stickels admitted defeat following 120mm of rain throughout April.
Announcing the switch, Paul Fisher, group managing director of Kempton's owners Jockey Club Racecourses, said: "Kempton is delighted to be able to help reschedule such a high quality fixture at short notice.
"We are very grateful for the proactive support of HBLB, the BHA and Ascot racecourse."
Prize money for the each race will be reduced but a total prize fund of over £100,000 remains on offer, after the Levy Board made a further investment into the meeting.
It was also confirmed on Monday that the meeting will be shown live on both At The Races and Racing UK.
