Improving Street fancied to land hot Ripon sprint
THE fast-improving Sovereign Street will bid to land an impressive sprint hat-trick when she faces 14 rivals in the inaugural running of the David Chapman Memorial Handicap at Ripon (7.35) this evening.
The four-year-old won twice last month when shouldering big weights at Hamilton and Ayr but trainer Ann Duffield is now prepared to take plunge against more experienced and better-rated opposition.
Sovereign Street is available at 6-1 and Duffield said: "She was meant to run at Hamilton on Saturday before it was abandoned and I think she'd have probably won.
"I just hope it's soft enough - she loves soft ground. She's still improving and it looks the right time to try a better race as she's off a low weight."
She will face Fitz Flyer, who disappointed at Goodwood last week, and Bosun Breeze, who failed to land the four-timer in a competitive Ascot handicap last month.
Tuesday's afternoon action takes place at Bath,Wolverhampton and Catterick before Ripon, Kempton and Roscommon kick off tonight.
