Carruthers back over hurdles at Doncaster

FORMER Hennessy Gold Cup winner Carruthers, who has bounced-back to form this season with two victories at Ffos Las, will bid for further success at Doncaster on Saturday.

His latest win came in the West Wales National on February 2, but he will switch to hurdles on Saturday after featuring among 26 five-day entries for the William Hill - Download The App Handicap Hurdle.

Sara Bradstock, assistant trainer of the popular ten-year-old, said: "Carruthers is 12lb higher over fences so we thought we would have a go at the three mile handicap hurdle at Doncaster on Saturday and hopefully he can make them all go. After that we will then have a crack at the Midlands National."

Doncaster's feature race, the William Hill Grimthorpe Chase, could offer some valuable Grand National clues after 22 entries were revealed.

Join Together, as short at 16-1 for the National, and stablemate Harry The Viking, a general 33-1 shot for Aintree, could represent champion trainer Paul Nicholls in the race.

David Pipe has entered National-bound The Package in the 3m2f contest, that also features last year's winner Ikorodu Road.

Recent Morebattle Hurdle winner Duke Of Navan could head back to Kelso on Saturday for a crack at the Premier Hurdle. He's one of two entries Nicky Richards is considering for the race, with Carlisle winner Eduard also among the 16 entries.
