Frozen Kelso forced to abandon Sunday card
KELSO has been forced to abandon Sunday's card with the track partly frozen and little prospect of it thawing in time.
An inspection had been scheduled for 7.45am but clerk of the course Hazel Peplinksi took the decision to abandon an hour earlier after temperatures dipped overnight to -5C.
She said: "We've got no option, it's the coldest morning of the year and the prospects of a thaw are zero. It was minus five overnight and is still minus five now [6.50am]. The met office said we are due to get to zero at eleven, with the maximum temperature two or three degrees.
"On that basis it is unfair to ask people to travel with no prospect of racing, it's disappointing."
Kelso is next scheduled to race on February 15.
