JOY AND FUN, one of two Hong Kong sprinters to contest the Golden Jubilee Stakes, has undergone surgery for a fracture after finishing 13th behind Starspangledbanner at Royal Ascot.
The seven-year-old winner of the Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai in March was operated on in Newmarket on Monday and is recoveringwell enough for connections to retain hope he will race again.
Trevor Cruz, son of the gelding's trainer Derek, said: "He has a fracture of the cannon bone. He travelled back to Newmarket on the day and Dr Richard Payne from Rossdales performed surgery on Monday morning and he is recovering very well.
"All sorts of fractures are career-threatening but the prognosis so far is thathe will race again so we will keep our fingers crossed. He will be here for another six weeks at least before he can return home.
"My guess was he probably stood on a divot which caused the fracture. The jockey [Brett Doyle] said he felt something wasn't right around two furlongs to go so he held him and finished off the race. Our hope is that he will recover well and come back at some point."
