Arlington Park: Beverly D Stakes (Grade 1) 1m1½f, turf, 3yo+ f/m

HAVING landed the Arlington Million in 2010 with Debussy, the all-conquering John Gosden/William Buick partnership returns to Chicago on Saturday when they bid to maintain a glorious summer with three runners at the Arlington International Festival of Racing.

Although both Colombian and Zuider Zee have sound chances elsewhere, their number one hope may well be Joviality, one of four European-runners in the Beverly D.

Although a strong European contingent can be relied upon for this $750,000 contest, Godolphin's Crimson Palace in 2004 is the only winner to have been trained outside the States in the last ten years.

Joviality produced the best performance of her career when beating Chachamaidee in the Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot before a dismal effort when she dropped out in soft ground in the Falmouth Stakes.

She is joined in the Beverly D by compatriots I'm A Dreamer (David Simcock/Hayley Turner), whose trainer has been eyeing Grade 1 success in the States all season, plus Up (Aidan O'Brien/Colm O'Donoghue) and Kapitale (Andreas Wohler/Mirco Demuro) from Germany.

Among the leading lights of the home team are morning line favourite Marketing Mix (Tom Proctor/Julien Leparoux), on a graded stakes hat-trick after a pair of dominant performances at Woodbine this summer.

Old rivals Aruna (Graham Motion/Ramon Dominguez) and Mystical Star (Christophe Clement/Jose Lezcano) have been trading blows in Belmont graded stakes.
