RECESSION PROOF, winner of the Totesport Trophy at Newbury last year, has been ruled out for the season by connections.
The six-year-old, trained by John Quinn, was last seen in the Stan James Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham last season, when he finished eight lengths adrift of Al Ferof in fifth.
It was hoped he would bid to retain his Newbury crown in the newly named Betfair Hurdle but he missed that race before Quinn's son Sean confirmed on Sunday that he would miss the rest of the season with injury.
He tweeted: "I'm sad to report Recession Proof will not be seen again this season after re-injuring himself at home. That's the downside to the jumps game. We're all gutted as we had him so close to a comeback."
Recession Proof was a 50-1 chance with the sponsors for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham next month.
