Akeed Mofeed back to winning ways at Cork
AKEED MOFEED, fourth to the mighty Camelot in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on his belated seasonal reappearance, got back to winning ways with a confidence-boosting win in the Listed Platinum Stakes at Cork on Sunday.

After missing his intended comeback in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas through lameness, Akeed Mofeed was among the market leader for the Investec Derby before a bruised hock meant he was unable to trial for the race and he eventually reappeared at the Curragh in June.
Always held in high regard by John Oxx, Akeed Mofeed looked in need of the run behind Camelot but had no issues dispatching his four rivals in good fashion under Niall McCullagh on Sunday.
Settled in second as Among Equals set a strong pace, the 2-5 favoruite cruised through to lead early in the straight before he put daylight between himself and his rivals under a hands and heels ride.
Akeed Mofeed's task had been made much easier earlier in the day as Royal Ascot winner and main rival Duntle was declared a non-runner.
Oxx said: "Niall McCullagh said he quickenened and, given the gallop they went, that took a bit of doing. We'd never pull him out because of heavy ground.
"In a way we're starting off with him again and the races we're looking at are the Solonaway Stakes at the Curragh and the Kilternan on Champion Stakes day.
"He is in the Champion Stakes but that might be a bit too much. I don't think he'll run beyond one mile two furlongs again."
