RYAN MOORE had to settle for third behind Singapore's Joao Moreira in his bid to win a third Hong Kong International Jockeys Championship at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
After winning the second of the four-race series, sponsored this year by Longines, Moore thought he had a chance, reckoning his last-race ride was his best ride of the four.
Instead it was Moreira, who bookended his first title with wins, having taken the first leg, riding his rivals to sleep on All The Winners, making the most of an easy lead.
Zac Purton, pre-meeting favourite, won the third leg and led into the last 100 metres on Chancellor only for Moreira to conjure a wide late run on Noble Deluxe to win by a nose.
Tom Queally, taking up a three-month contract in Hong Kong, picked up 10pts with a second and third to finish fourth in the 12-strong field.
William Buick, rated a 50-1 outsider pre-racing, did well to scrape a fourth and fifth.
