Fortune out for a further week with ankle injury

JIMMY FORTUNE will be out of action until next Saturday after his hopes of recovering from Tuesday night's fall at Newbury in time to ride this weekend were dashed.

Fortune, who has made a great start to his new career as a freelance by riding 33 winners, suffered soft tissue damage around his right ankle when his mountFirst Post was brought down by Volatilis, who had broken a leg and fallen.

However, the healing process has taken longer that Fortune anticipated and speaking on Friday, he said: "It is really frustrating because I thought I would get it right to ride today or tomorrow, but I am just finding it hard to get the swelling down.

"Unfortunately I am suspended for four days next week -I could have done with the ban being this week - so I am just going to take a break and look to come back next Saturday."
