Freedom makes chasing debut at Roscommon
STEPS TO FREEDOM, who won the Grade 2 Aintree Champion Bumper in 2011, makes his chasing debut at Roscommon in the 7.50 in a race won last year by Arkle runner-up Baily Green.
A Grade 2 winner over hurdles as well, Steps To Freedom was not beaten far on the Flat in either last year's Ebor or Group 3 Sagaro Stakes last month and is one of the most exciting horses in the 2m novice division.
He faces Grade 2 winning chaser Rathlin, who has done all his winning over further but still heads the market at 13-8, with Steps To Freedom a 9-4 shot.
Jessica Harrington also runs Jetson, third at Cheltenham and second at Aintree, in a handicap chase off a mark 13lb lower than his rating over hurdles.
"The 3m trip will suit and so will the smaller fences. He's in good form and I just hope they've done a good job watering the track," said Harrington.
Jetson heads the market at 6-1 for the 16 runner, €25,000 contest.
Today's key pointers
Sire Cape Cross's record at Southwell with hurdlers overall reads 5-11, 45%, so course winner Tamarillo Grove (8.10pm) has to be interesting.
Saeed Bin Suroor is 3-5 since 2010 with runners in non-handicaps at Brighton so Al Manaal (2.45pm) is worth consideration.
Richard Hughes has a 11-21 record on two-year-olds at Windsor since the start of 2012, which is a 53% strike-rate. He rides Constantine (6.30pm).
