Jessies Dream breaks hind leg while cantering
GORDON ELLIOTT'S first Grade 1 winner Jessies Dream suffered a fatal injury when doing a routine canter this morning.
Jessies Dream, who won the 2010 Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse, was a general 33-1 chance for the John Smith's Grand National at Aintree and had pleased Elliott in a 2m schooling session at Leopardstown last Monday morning.
"It's terrible news for everyone here, especially his owner David Johnson," said Elliott. "He was just cantering away this morning and he broke his hind leg. It was just one of those things that could have happened to any horse.
"It's such a pity as he was due to run next Saturday and was heading for the Grand National all being well. He gave me my first Grade 1 victory so obviously he holds a special place in my heart. He was plagued with injuries all his life and he never got to fulfil his potential."
