ORFEVRE (Yasutoshi Ikee/Kenichi Ikezoe) unleashed his showstopping turn of foot to run down his rivals and make a winning return to the racecourse in 2013.

Second in last year's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Orfevre was then beaten a nose by Gentildonna in the Grade 1 Japan Cup on his last start of the year in November.

Held up towards the rear as Copano Jingu set the pace, Orfevre made stealthy progress on to the heels of the leaders and made his challenge rounding the turn for home.

Among those still in front of Orfevre was last year's Tenno Sho (Autumn) winner Eishin Flash, but he was left standing as the five-year-old swept past him under a firm hands-and-heels ride.

Ikezoe had time to stop riding and perform a celebratory fist pump even as Shonan Mighty flashed home to take second half a length behind the winner, with Eishin Flash a neck back in third.

Owned by the Sunday Racing Co Ltd, Orfevre has a second tilt at the Arc as his major objective in 2013.
