More Classic glory for Guineas hero Gold Ship

Report: Japan, Sunday

Kyoto: Kukuka Sho (Japanese St Leger) (Grade 1) 1m7f, turf, 3yo

JAPAN'S top three-year-old Gold Ship (Naosuke Sugai/Hiroyuki Uchida) outclassed his rivals to win the final Classic of the season, the Kikuka Sho, at Kyoto on Sunday.

Sent off 2-5 favourite to add to his Satsuki Sho (2,000 Guineas) triumph, the grey son of Stay Gold is a relative of Arc runner-up Orfevre.

Drawn on the inside, he raced stone last for the first circuit before circling the entire field down the back straight second time around, hitting the front four wide as they entered the straight. Gold Ship then powered home, easily holding Sky Dignity by a length and three-quarters in the 269 million yen (£2.12m) event.
