Hanshin to stage Japan Cup Dirt for last time

THE Japan Cup Dirt, which carries a prize fund of over 271 million Yen (£1.9m) and a winner's purse of 130m Yen (£922,000), will be run for the sixth and last time at right-handed Hanshin on Saturday, December 1, having been transferred from left-handed Tokyo racecourse in 2008.

Lack of runners from abroad has been cited by the Japan Racing Association for the decision to revert to a left-handed track in 2014, when the race will be run as the Champions Cup, with reduced prize-money and no invitational element, at Chukyo racecourse, Nagoya, midway between Tokyo and Osaka.

US-trained Grade 2 winner Pants On Fire is this year's only overseas runner - the first since 2009 - despite an original foreign entry of 18, including Chil The Kite and Planteur from Britain and Breeders' Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man.
