A MAN accused of murdering teenage jockeys Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson, who died in a fire in a block of flats, was told he faces a ten-day trial next year after a court hearing on Friday.
Peter William Brown, of Lyndale Caravan Park, Knottingley, West Yorkshire, is accused of murdering Kyne, 18, of County Galway, Ireland, and Wilson, 19, from Forfar, Scotland, in Malton, North Yorkshire, on September 5.
He appeared via video link at Leeds Crown Court speaking only to confirm his name and date of birth during the short hearing.
Prosecutor Richard Mansell, defence barrister Mark McKone and the Recorder of Leeds, Peter Collier, agreed Brown will face a ten-day trial beginning on April 26 next year.
The 37-year-old was remanded in custody and will next appear at Leeds Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on February 23 when he will enter his plea.
Brown was arrested on the day of the blaze but released from bail last month before being re-arrested on Wednesday, November 25.
Kyne, 18, who was employed by John Quinn, had been enjoying a good season with 29 winners and was third in the apprentice championship, which was subsequently named in his and Jan Wilson's honour.
Wilson, 19, who switched from amateur to the professional ranks last winter, had been with David Barron since December.
