Broken collarbone for Velazquez after fall

USA: Top jockey John Velazquez has been released from hospital in Kentucky after breaking his right collarbone in a fall after one of his mounts on Saturday's card at Churchill Downs suffered a fatal breakdown.

Doctors detained the dual Eclipse Award-winning rider until Tuesday because he also suffered a traumatic blow to his kidney, which it is estimated will take a fortnight to heal.

Velazquez, 40, will also undergo surgery in New York before returning to the saddle. He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at Saratoga in August.
