Curragh not Caulfield target for Royal Diamond

ROYAL DIAMOND is set to defend his GAIN Irish St Leger title after having a trip to Australia for the BMW Caulfield Cup ruled out.

Connections left the seven-year-old in both races on Tuesday, but quarantine restrictions for the Australian test meant they had to decide on Wednesday which race they wanted to run in.

If going for the Caulfield Cup the Johnny Murtagh-trained contender would have to enter quarantine in Britain, not his native Ireland, on Thursday and therefore miss Sunday's Irish St Leger.

Owner Andrew Tinkler tweeted on Wednesday morning: "Royal Diamond to take his chance to try and win back to back GAIN Irish St Leger on Sunday."

He is 6-1 to retain his crown at the Curragh.
