AFTER No Risk At All (Ioritz Mendizabal) had trounced six others in this Group 3 event, Jean-Paul Gallorini said: "I will do everything I can to win the Arc with him."
The five-year-old was following in the footsteps of Cirrus Des Aigles, who had been just as impressive when hacking up in this a year go. Being a gelding, the Arc was not an option for for Corine Barande-Barbe's champion, but No Risk At All is still an entire horse.
Mendizabal rode a patient race on the odds on favourite. The pair were second last in the straight and came up the centre of the track to deliver their challenge. They hit the front at the furlong marker and No Risk At All cantered clear to win eased down by two and a half lengths from the rank outsider Ok Coral, with the long time leader Don Bosco half a length away third.
No Risk At All was conceding 2½lb to the rest of the field and was landing back to back wins in a Group 3 event having beaten the future winner of the Grand Prix de Paris, Meandre, in La Coupe at Longchamp. There seems no reason why the unfashionably-bred horse cannot go on to reach the same heights as Cirrus des Aigles but they are unlikely to meet this year.
Owner and trainer Jean-Paul Gallorini said: "I announced the programme since the beginning of the season although I did finally decided to take in the Prix d'Ispahan as I wanted to test him against Group 1 winners.
"I told Mendizabal to stay in the stalls and put him to sleep before making a late challenge and he finished fourth. The plan now is the Prix Foy and then the Arc de Triomphe."
