Intello my best chance of an eighth Arc says Fabre
ANDRE FABRE believes Intello represents his best chance of lifting an eighth Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday week, although the master trainer acknowledges there will be "no masking it" if the Prix du Jockey Club winner's unproven stamina gives out.
Fabre could field up to four runners in Europe's richest race, with deposed ante-post favourite Flintshire still in the reckoning alongside Ocovango and Penglai Pavilion.
Intello left some observers cold when posting a comfortable success in Saturday's Prix du Prince d'Orange over 1m2f, with bookmakers shaving rather than slashing his price.
"He had an easy race which was necessary because the Arc is close," said Fabre, whose last Arc success came with Rail Link in 2006.
"A hard race would have been a problem for him. You could call the ground on Saturday soft or you could call it very bad.
"The state of the track at Longchamp at the moment is a concern for me."
Intello is widely available at 12-1 and is generally sixth choice with most firms; Boylesports are among those who have stablemate Flintshire , Pricewise's ante-post selection, shorter.
Fabre said: "He's my best chance providing he stays the trip, because there isn't any other horse in the race that I know of who has been placed in two Group 1s over a mile.
"He's a laid-back horse and an easy ride, but in a Group 1 if you don't stay, you don't stay. There's no masking it."
