Injury rules Flemenstar out of John Durkan

FLEMENSTAR will miss the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown on Sunday after trainer Tony Martin revealed that the eight-year-old, who won the Grade 1 event a year ago, has met with a setback.

Speaking on Saturday afternoon, Martin said: "Unfortunately Flemenstar will not be running at Punchestown tomorrow. He gave himself a knock on his off foreleg yesterday and we weren't happy with him this morning.

"We won't know the full score or how long he will be out of action until the vets have checked him out fully over the next few days."

The three time Grade 1-winning chaser joined Martin in September having previously been trained by Peter Casey. He won on his first start for Martin when landing the Grade 2 Fortria Chase at Navan last month for the second year running.

Flemenstar's absence from the Punchestown event reduces the field to only three runners for the second consecutive year, with the Willie Mullins-trained pair, Sir Des Champs and Arvika Ligeonniere, being taken on by 2011 winner Rubi Light.
