In-form Russell chasing winners at Gowran Park
DAVY RUSSELL has been in outstanding form of late, and has the chance to bag himself more winners this afternoon at Gowran Park.
Russell, who had a rare ride on the Flat at Dundalk on Wednesday evening, has ridden nine winners in the last 14 days, and boasts a 20 per cent strike rate over hurdles at Gowran.
He has four rides at the track this afternoon, with Lough Roe Lady offering a good opportunity for victory in the 2m4f mares handicap hurdle (2.35).
Lough Roe Lady's trainer is Philip Byrne, who said: "She came out of her win at Thurles pretty well and we'd hope for a bit more improvement as that was her first run in a handicap and her first run since May. She'll relish the step up in trip, but the worry is she has a lot of weight to carry in that ground."
Away from Gowran Park, turf racing is back in Britain following Wednesday's abandonments at Leicester and Hexham. Taunton race this afternoon, while there is also all-weather action at Kempton.
