Palmer's Making Eyes bags Listed honours

Making Eyes (Ioritz Mendizabal) gave Hugo Palmer his first Listed win when she scored at Vichy on Friday.

She was the only filly in the race and battled gamely to deny Ball Prince by half a length with Abdel close up in third. The favorite Royal Bench was beaten a long way out.
Palmer is in his second year as a trainer and it has been a good week at Vichy as Tipping Over was fifth in a Listed race on Tuesday.
"Making Eyes is a very tough, game and genuine filly," Palmer said. "I told Ioritz to do what he wanted in the race and he rode her with confidence. I feel she needs a month between races to bring her back to her fighting best and we will be now looking at a Group 3 race [the Landwades Stud Fillies Stakes] at the Curragh at the end of August."
