LORD KANALOA became the first Japanese-trained winner of the Hong Kong Sprint as he slammed his rivals with an impressive win.

After compatriot Jaguar Mail had gone down narrowly in the Vase, Lord Kanaloa gained compensation in the best possible fashion as he won by two and half lengths under Yasunari Iwata for trainer Takayuki Yasuda.
Cerise Cherry finished second, a short-head in front of Captain Sweet as low numbers dominated.
Very few runners got into this as Cerise Cherry led from the off before Lord Kanaloa stamped his class on the race, scooting to the front inside the final furlong to win as he liked.
Yasuda said: "This is a dream come true as I believe this is the best sprint race in the world and I have targetted it. He is a pioneer for Japanese sprinters and I hope we will have more sprinters come here."
