KILDARE (Derek Cruz/Howard Cheng) emerged as a potential new star of the Hong Kong scene when numbering HK Sprint winner Inspiration among his victims at Sha Tin on Sunday.
The New Zealand-bred four-year-old took davantge of weight concessions to land his first black-type victory in the Chow Tai Fook Bauhinia Sprint Trophy over 5f.
Kildare was settled towards the back by local star Cheng before accelerating in the last quarter to beat Enthused by a head with Yellow Diamond another neck behind to run third.
Winning trainer Cruz said: "Although this is a handicap race with half of the runners had to give him between 2lb and 20lb, he has made a huge jump up to Group 3 company.
"He improved significantly this season," added Cruz. "He relaxed and speeded up nicely."
Kildare will return in the Group 1 Centenary Sprint over 5f on February 1.
Inspiration, shock winner of the HK Sprint, could finish only seventh under a big weight.
Jockey Zac Purton said: "The 133lb he got certainly an disadvantage for him. To make the matters worse, he was severely checked about 300 metres out, which cost him his chance."
Elsewhere on the Sha Tin card, Gerald Mosse followed his recent comeback winner with two out of two on Sunday.
