Death of HK champ Vengeance Of Rain
Hong Kong: Champion racehorse Vengeance Of Rain, best known for winning the Dubai Sheema Classic for Hong Kong in 2007, has died at Cambridge Stud in New Zealand where he was born.
The 11-year-old son of Zabeel was retired to Cambridge in February 2008.
The 2006-07 HK Horse of the Year, Vengeance Of Rain first came to prominence in 2004-05, the season in which he won the Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby, Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup and Champions & Chater Cup.
In December 2005 he also won the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup and he won the the 2007 Hong Kong Gold Cup before his Dubai victory at Nad Al Sheba.
His trainer David Ferraris said he was saddened by the news of the great horse's death at such a relatively early age.
"He had a heart condition and it just shows how good he was that he was able to achieve so much in spite of it," Ferraris said.
"He was such a wonderful horse, one of those who come along once in a blue moon. I know he had the retirement he deserved at Cambridge where he was a happy horse and looked fantastic. He enjoyed his retirement there."
