Holmwood Legend on course for festival date

HOLMWOOD LEGEND remains on course to bid for a repeat win in the Byrne Group Plate at Cheltenham in March despite finishing a remote third in a novice hurdle atWincanton.

The chaser appeared to stumble on the final bend on his way to a 41-length defeat last Saturday but was none the worse for the outing.

Trainer Kieran Burke said on Monday: "He has come out of the race really well.

"He is a good ground horse and the ground at Wincanton was far from ideal.

"Obviously Cheltenham is the long-term plan and I would imagine he will go for the race he won last year but he could have a few runs before then if we can find the right races for him as he is such a hardy bugger and he is a horse who comes to himself in the spring."
