Hereford and Thurles abandon Thursday cards
A FROZEN track has forced officials at Hereford racecourse to abandon Thursday's meeting.
Despite milder than expected temperatures overnight the track failed an 8am inspection on Wednesday morning.
Estate manager Katie Stephens said: "It's all gone. The track is frozen . It didn't go as low as we thought it might but to be honest it would take two or three days to turn this around."
Thurles also failed to pass a 9am inspection ahead of Thursday's action.
Officials had initially planned to inspect on the morning of raceday but an adverseforecast forced them to bring the check forward to 9am on Wednesday
Racecourse manager Pierce Molony told the Racing Post: "We've had to cancel. The hurdles track has not improved since yesterday. We hoped there might be a chancebut it has never got above freezing and was -9C overnight. The chase course is frozen solid."
The icy weather looks set to severely deplete Thursday's cards with the action at Catterick also in doubt.
Officials at the North Yorkshire track will now check the condition of the course at 3.30pm on Wednesday ahead of Thursday's meeting.
An inspection was scheduled for noon on Wednesday, but a later look is needed.
