Henry de Bromhead: hoping Clonbanan Lad can go on to good things

De Bromhead has high hopes for Clonbanan Lad

HENRY DE BROMHEAD is looking forward to seeing his new recruit Clonbanan Lad start what he hopes will be a successful career over hurdles at Punchestown on Wednesday.

The six-year-old won two bumpers last season when trained by Michael O'Connor and showed enough behind Champagne Fever in the bumper at the Cheltenham Festival to be sent of the 4-1 second-favourite when reopposing that same rival in the bumper at the following month's Punchestown festival.

Clonbanan Lad has since joined Henry de Bromhead, who said: "He is an exciting youngster to join us having won a point-to-point and two bumpers for Michael O'Connor.

"He actually ran in the festival bumpers at Cheltenham and Punchestown, finishing mid-division behind Champagne Fever each time.

"He is working like a nice hurdler and will be interesting."

To read Henry de Bromhead's thoughts on Days Hotel, Sizing Europe, Special Tiara, The Folkes Choice and a whole host of exciting youngsters make sure you pick up The Weekender - available to buy from Wednesday
