Henderson newcomer perfect tonic for punters

THERE is no form to go on for the 2m bumper at Wincanton (5.00) this afternoon as 13 runners make the debuts, so the market move for Nicky Henderson's Vodka 'n Tonic looks significant.

The four-year-old, who will be ridden by Andrew Tinkler, opened around the 2-1 mark, but is now a general 11-10 shot to make a winning start.

At Ludlow Green To Gold is another popular favourite in the 2m novice handicap chase. Part-owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, the eight-year-old shaped promisingly on his return to action at Wolverhampton last month, and is now largely odds-on having been as big as 6-4.

With 17mm of overnight rain turning the ground to soft, heavy in places at Fontwell, there have been a lot of horses scratched on account of the softer going. Eight races had originally attracted 90 runners, but 24 have now been declared non-runners.
