Heavy rain forecast but Ascot rules out race swap
THE heaviest rain forecast for Ascot this week is due on Tuesday night but the track has ruled out changing the running order of Saturday's Qipco British Champions Day card because of the possibility of testing ground.
Clerk of the course Chris Stickels confirmed there would be no change to the race timings on Saturday, despite a report suggesting it was under consideration. The Qipco Champion Stakes, in which Frankel will star, is the fifth of the six races on the card.
He said: "What I confirmed was that the running order change was theoretically possible, but we are not going to make any changes. The track is soft, it's in good shape. We have fresh ground that we have been preserving since July so we have no reason to consider making any changes to the running order."
Stickels was braced for rain at Ascot on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A Met Office spokeswoman said: "It's a bit of a mixed bag. The worst of the rain will come through tonight and then there could be light rain on and off through Thursday. Friday could stay dry but quite cloudy but by Saturday we should see some sunshine come through."
