Sheikh Joaan purchases Guineas victor Vendome
STYLE VENDOME was on Tuesday confirmed as the latest addition to Sheikh Joaan Al Thani's burgeoning roster, with the French 2,000 Guineas winner set to run in the colours of the son of the Emir of Qatar.
Sheikh Joaan's latest acquisition strengthens his hand in Britain and France, with his colours already carried by the Richard Hannon-trained duo of Olympic Glory and Toronado, and the globetrotting Planteur who is with Marco Botti.
Confirming the deal on Tuesday was Sheikh Joaan's bloodstock consultant Nicolas de Watrigant, who said: "The horse has been bought by Sheikh Joaan Al Thani and he will stay with Nicolas Clement."
Second on debut as a juvenile in a Listed race at Deauville, Style Vendome has subsequently won his next five starts, culminating in a neck defeat of Dastarhon in the Guineas at Longchamp last month.
Although entered for the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, Style Vendome will remain in France, with the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly identified by de Watrigant as his next likely target.
Explaining the reasons for Sheikh Joaan purchasing the three-year-old de Watrigant added: "The 2,000 Guineas was a great race and was confirmed with Intello winning the French Derby. He is an exciting prospect and I think there's more to come with him.
"It's a good investment for him and maybe the Prix Jacques Le Marois is an option later in the season."
