Haydock optimistic of racing despite forecast
HAYDOCK clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright remained hopeful that Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup meeting would go ahead despitefurther rain overnight and a wet forecast.
The ground is heavy, soft in places, after another 9mm of rain fell during the night but it has been dry so far on Thursday when trainers make final declarations for the Group 1 sprint.
"We have had 9mm of rain overnight and it is dry at the moment but Friday's forecast is not good," he said. "The course is fit to race. The covers appear to be doing their bit and back straight and bends, which are not covered, are fit to race.
"The message is one of cautious optimism. The covers are catching the lion's share of the rain and we have a groundhog to soak it up."
