Gemswick Park gets up in Gulfstream Grade 3
Report: USA, Sunday
Gulfstream Park: Old Hat Stakes (Grade 3) 6f, dirt, 3yo fillies
GEMSWICK PARK (Tom Albertrani/John Velazquez), settled early behind hot favourite Elusive Heat, just got up at the wire to defeat that rival by a nose.
The runner-up, sent off market leader at 11-10, set a very hot pace (half-mile in 44.92s) but battled on bravely in a thrilling finish where Frolic's Dream was just another nose back third.
It may have been close, but winning jockey John Velazquez suggested he had been confident on 9-2 chance Gemswick Park.
"From the three-sixteenths pole on down it was a smooth one," he said. "I couldn't ask for more. Once we got going I didn't have any problems. This horse has a bright future ahead."
Albertrani added: "I'm not sure what's next. We tried to stretch her speed last year but I'd rather have her run five furlongs than seven. I think she'll handle any surface, though, including turf."

Tizfiz (Rafael DeLeon/Agapito Delgadillo), a 9-1 shot who was claimed for $50,000 after a race in October, now has a Grade 2 to her name after an all-the-way victory.
Sent straight to the lead at the start, she had enough left after setting leisurely fractions to beat Marzelline by a nose. 2-1 favourite Valbenny was only fourth.
