THE going on Aintree's Grand National course was changed to soft, good to soft in places after 11mm of rain fell at the track overnight Sunday intoMonday.
Underfoot conditions had previously been advertised as good but clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch made the switch after walking the track early on Monday afternoon.
Tulloch said: "We have had 11mm so far but it is still raining and is expected to rain into the late afternoon, early evening and then peter out.
"Temperatures are getting quite low, down to 1c or zero so we are not going to lose a lot [of moisture] really.
"This rain was forecast and there are some more showers about later in the week which could deliver three or four millimetres if we catch one."
The going on the Mildmay and hurdle tracks wasdescribed as good to soft, soft in places on Monday with GoingStick readings of 6.4 on the Mildmay track and 6.3 on the hurdles.
