Lavelle's Bouggler suffers career-ending injury
BOUGGLER, winner of a Listed handicap chase on his seasonal debut at Market Rasen and generally 20-1 for the Hennessy Gold Cup, has suffered a career-ending injury.
The 2009 Grade 2 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle winner sustained the damage to a digital flexor tendon in the United House Gold Cup at Ascot last Saturday, chasing the winner Houblon Des Obeaux to the last fence before fading on the run-in.
The eight-year-old’s trainer Emma Lavelle said: “He picked up a similar injury when he ran in the Jewson Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in 2011 and missed 18 months, and this one is a little bit lower down on the same leg – the tendon is completely gone.
“He ran a fantastic race at Ascot but was in trouble on pulling up after the line and he won’t run again. He’s owned by a syndicate who adore him and he’ll have a very nice life.”
