QUEVEGA, a best price 11-8 favourite with William Hill to repeat her win in the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle next month, is one of ten entries for Saturday’s Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran Park.
Her trainer Willie Mullins won the corresponding race in 2000 with Balla Sola and last year’s runaway Cheltenham Festival winner is his sole entry in the 2m Grade 2 event.
The mare was one of 10 entries and Mullins said: "She is just an entry at this stage but she is coming along gradually and I think we're ahead of schedule with her."
Charles Byrnes, successful with Solwhit 12 months ago, is represented by Carthalawn while Edward O'Grady, who sent out Catch Me to score two years ago, has Jumbo Rio.
Other notable entries include Noel Meade's Muirhead, beaten a short head by Ebadiyan in the Limestone Listed Hurdle at Naas last time, and the veteran 2006 Champion Chaser Newmill, who bounced back to winning ways at Thurles last month.
John Murphy’s 12-year-old also holds an entry in the Grade 2 Red Mills Chase, which has attracted 14 initial entries. The field also include a quartet of Willie Mullins-trained runners – Deutschland, J’y Vole, Scotsirish and Snowy Morning.
Dual Thyestes winner around this course Preists Leap, a disappointing tenth behind Whinstone Boy in that same race last month, also figures along with Siegemaster and Glenfinn Captain.
