Toormore lands Vintage under masterful Hughes
TOORMORE swooped late to take the Vintage Stakes for Richard Hughes and Richard Hannon at Glorious Goodwood.
The finish was a carbon copy of the Sussex Stakes that preceded it, with Godolphin's Outstrip surging to the front under Mickael Barzalona for trainer Charlie Appleby.
But just as Kevin Manning had been on Dawn Approach half an hour earlier, Barzalona was powerless to prevent Richard Hughes sweeping by to claim a cosy victory in the shadow of the winning post.
Parbold stayed on from the rear under Paul Hanagan to take third.
Paddy Power responded by making Toormore a 25-1 shot for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.
The win marked the fourth consecutive year Hughes and Hannon have combined to take the Vintage Stakes and the champion jockey said of his boss: "He's a good trainer, isn't he?"
