Good Old Boy holds on for Superlative success
Report: Newmarket, Saturday
32.Red.com Superlative Stakes (Group 2) 7f, 2yo
The market leader, who opened at 4-1, was one of the first out of the stalls under Johnny Murtagh and the 7-2 winner was always up with the pace, along with Street Force.
The front pair moved over to the stands' rail over a furlong from home before Moore sent his mount to the front and the pair held on after a protracted battle with Somewhat.
Winning owner Martin McCloud said: "Ryan said he was still green when he hit the front and he is still improving. He's in the Gimcrack Stakes at York but the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster could be the race for him."
Good Old Boy Lukey was given an opening quote of 33-1 from Paddy Power for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas.
Washaar was two lengths back in third for Dane O'Neill and Richard Hannon, who were chasing a double after landing the opener with Law Enforcement.
