Global lands Victoria
Cup as low-draw rules

Report: Ascot, Saturday

Betfred Victoria Cup (Heritage Handicap) 7f, 4yo+

GLOBAL VILLAGE led home a one-two-three-four for low-drawn horses at Ascot when scoring for trainer Brian Ellison and jockey Tadhg O'Shea.

The seven-year-old, drawn in gate two, travelled powerfully close to the rail and struck for homewith two furlongs to run.

Challenges came from all over the track but those threatening most were close by Global Village, with BonnieBrae getting closest to the 9-1 winner.

Bonnie Brae (stall one) took second under jockey Ryan Moore with King Of Jazz (five) third and Brae Hill (eight) fourth. Lightning Cloud was first home in the centre taking fifth place under jockey Amy Ryan.

Kevin Corcoran, one of the three owners that make up Jack Racing Melksham, said: "This is what dreams are made of. We're just three normal guys from Frome and we live four and a half hours away from Brian but he's good.

"We bought this horse for 14,000gns for an all-weather campaign but Brian talked us into this. Roll on Royal Ascot!"

O'Shea added: "A lot of fancied horses were drawn low and that always helps but I also thought it was better ground that side."
