Leading owner Karl-
Heinz Munchow dies
Germany: Leading German owner-breeder Karl-Heinz Munchow has died at the age of 89.
He was one of the most successful owners in Germany during the 1960s, when his horses were trained by Heinz Jentzsch.
His biggest winners were Dschinghis Khan and Hitchcock, winners of the German 2,000 Guineas and many other group races in 1964 and 1969 respectively.
Dschinghis Khan later became an influential stallion and can be found in many German pedigrees today - he is the sire of triple crown winner and champion sire Konigsstuhl, himself sire of the outstanding Monsun.
After he also became an active breeder, Munchow had his horses run in the name of Gestut Monchhof, but in the same distinctive red and yellow colours.
He remained an owner to the end of his life, with horses in training at Dusseldorf with Ralf Rohne.
He was married to singer and TV star Margot Eskens, whose manager he was, and is survived by her.
