Strong field for Preis des Winterfavoriten
Preview: Germany, Sunday
Düsseldorf: 109th Preis des Winterfavoriten (Group 3) 2yo, 1m, 2.20 p.m. BST
THE Preis des Winterfavoriten, the local equivalent of the Racing Post Trophy, has been transferred this year from its traditional home at Cologne to Düsseldorf, because of the quarantine restrictions at the former track.
This also means that there are no runners from Germany´s top training centre, but it is still a decent field and includes a dangerous French-trained runner Tres Blue (Henri-Alex Pantall/ Maxime Guyon), who is however German-owned and is a half-brother to two German Group race winners.
Daktani (Markus Klug/ Eugen Frank) and Empire Hurricane (Andreas Wöhler/ Eduardo Pedroza) have already met twice here, with the former coming out on top each time, but there is little between them and Daktani needed the help of the stewards on the first occasion.
Anatol Artist (Uwe Ostmann/ Koen Clijmans) finished five lengths behind this pair last time, and more danger could come from Wöhler's other runner Mauriac (Josef Bojko).
Munich trainer Michael Figge also saddles two runners, Superplex (Filip Minarik), who arguably has the beating of Tres Blue through his Strasbourg runner-up Solow, and Wildheart (Adrie de Vries), easy winner of a Baden-Baden maiden last time.
Superplex, who holds an entry for the Derby at Epsom, can be preferred of this pair, but the trainer expects them both to run well.
