Germany schedules over 150 racedays in 2013
Germany: The fixture list for 2013 was published this week after what seems to have been a considerable amount of haggling behind the scenes.
Over 150 racedays are scheduled, the vast majority on a Sunday or bank holiday, although there are also some Wednesday evening meetings in the summer months, which it is hoped will be broadcast to the PMU betting shops in France.
The German Derby meeting at Hamburg, the subject of much controversy this year, is back to its old format: the last weekend of June, featuring the Hansa-Preis, and the first weekend in July, with the with the Deutsches Derby itself on Sunday, July 7, the final day of the six day meeting.
The Baden-Baden Spring Meeting is earlier than usual, running from May 8 to May 12 (four days), with the BBAG breeze-up sale on the 10th, while the big summer meeting runs from August 24 to September 2 (seven days), with the BBAG yearling sales on August 30 and the Grosser Preis von Baden on September 1.
