Andolini had finished sixth in the German Derby last time out and confirmed the form here with the seventh and eighth from that race, who both finished further behind him this time.
Salon Soldier, seventh at Hamburg, actually started favourite on Sunday, but after making the running until two furlongs out, he had no answer to Andolini's challenge in the straight, and then lost second place on the line to Swiss challenger Raheb, who finished well after being held up in last place.
Wohler is in the US, but winning owner-breeder Thomas Gehrig said: "We were worried today about the fast ground, and considered pulling him out. Of course I am happy we did not, as he handled it well enough.
"I think this distance is best for him and he probably goes next for the Preis der Deutschen Einheit over ten furlongs at Hoppegarten on October 3."
