Wetherby: no chance of the frost coming out of the ground

Wetherby abandoned following freezing night

MONDAY'S meeting at Wetherby has been abandoned to compound the misery for the Yorkshire track which also lost its potentially money-spinning two-day Christmas fixture to snow.

Clerk of the course, Jonjo Sanderson, said following an inspection on Sunday morning: "We are frozen this time. We have had two nights of -3C, it was -4C last night, and it is not getting above freezing during the day, maybe scraping 1C.

"Tonight we are forecast -6C or -7C so there is no chance of the frost coming out of the ground before Monday's race meeting."

Monday's other jump fixture at Lingfield has also been abandoned, leaving the all-weather meeting at Wolverhampton as the sole meeting in Britain and Ireland on Monday.
