OFFICIALS were forced to abandon Friday's fixtures at Chepstow and Catterick after both tracks suffered from low overnight temperatures.
Chepstow got as low as -4C overnight and clerk of the course Keith Ottesen reported that frost had got under the covers at the track.
Ottesen said: "A lot of the track was covered with fleece but the frost made it under the covers. Given the maximum we can expect is 2C in the afternoon we had no realistic option but to abandon."
Catterick was hit by overnight lows of -8C.
An inspection had been planned for 8am but clerk of the course Fiona Needham brought forward thecheck.
"We got to -8C overnight and it was still -7C at 6.15am. We had no chance, the track is frozen so we brought forward the decision."
