Dettori lands Shea Shea Nunthorpe ride

FRANKIE DETTORI has been given a fantastic opportunity to bag another big-race win after he was booked to ride ante-post favourite Shea Shea in the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York next Friday.

Dettori, who has won the race three times, was booked by Mike de Kock for the ride after regular partner Christophe Soumillon was ruled out through suspension. Dettori is due to ride the six-year-old in work at Newmarket on Thursday.

De Kock said: "Christophe Soumillon was due to take the ride as usual, but he picked up a suspension in France and failed on appeal. He won't be available on the day. We're fortunate to have Frankie available to stand in."

Shea Shea is stabled at Abington Place in Newmarket and leading South African trainer De Kock reports his preparation to be well on target.

"He's doing well, his coat looks good and he should be at his best for the race," he told his website. "It's an easier five furlongs than the one at Ascot where he was beaten late by Sole Power, so we're hoping it will suit him perfectly."

Among Shea Shea's potential opponents are Declaration Of War and Sole Power and De Kock added: "It looks like the usual suspects and if all goes well Shea Shea will be in with a big chance."
